Help & support

Before you head into the hills.

Answers to common questions about getting started, staying connected and managing your account.

Is the app available in English?

The app interface is currently in Traditional Chinese. This English website explains the main features, plans and limitations. Mountain guides, trip-planning tools and the web app are also currently in Chinese.

What should I do before my first hike?

Install the app and check permissions while you have reception. Download your route maps and verify that they open without a connection. Check current weather, trail access and permit requirements. Leave a plan and expected return time with someone you trust.

What works without mobile reception?

Previously downloaded offline maps and offline check-ins can work without internet access. Download the maps before leaving coverage. Family tracking needs a connection to upload new positions; people at home may only see the last received location.

Does a trip plan start live tracking?

No. A trip plan communicates your intentions. Live location sharing must be enabled in the app, with the required permissions and a tracking link shared with your contact. Check the update time on the tracking page; a displayed location may be old.

Are the safety tools free?

The free plan includes family tracking at approximately 30-minute intervals, trip-sharing tools, SOS tools, pre-hike checks and offline maps for two routes. Explorer adds approximately 2–5-minute tracking updates and full-area offline maps. Update delivery still depends on your device and connectivity.

What happens when I join a Digital Safety Line team?

The phones exchange team information and locations over Bluetooth. Joining also starts the separate family-tracking feature, which uploads locations to Firebase when connectivity is available. You choose whether to share its tracking link. Bluetooth range varies with terrain and obstructions; the feature cannot guarantee that teammates will never become separated.

Can the app guarantee rescue or contact someone without a signal?

No. Tracking, calls and messages depend on available services, reception and device conditions. A phone or the app alone is not a complete emergency plan. Bring suitable equipment and know how to seek help on your route.

How do I cancel Explorer or request a refund?

Use the subscription settings in the App Store or Google Play account used for the purchase. Cancellation stops future renewals; paid access continues to the end of the current period. Submit refund requests through that store.

How can I delete my account and data?

In the app’s Settings, select Delete account and data (刪除帳號與資料). This deletes your personal data, hiking records, social posts, profile and retained tracking data associated with your account. Contact support if you cannot access your account. Deleting an account does not itself cancel an app-store subscription.

Where can I ask for help?

Email peaks.taiwan.app@gmail.com. Include your phone model, operating system, app version and a description of the problem. Do not send passwords, verification codes or private tracking links.
